THEMATIC FOCUS IBSEN SUMMER ACADEMY 2026

The Ibsen Summer Academy is for anyone who wants to read, write, interpret and artistically explore Ibsen’s plays. In a weeklong social and creative collective, the academy offers skilled workshop leaders with an interdisciplinary approach. No prior education in literature or drama is required, but in addition to a good dose of curiosity, basic skills in English is needed.

Each year a new play will be thematically in focus. The Lady from the Sea was thematized in 2024 and in 2025 The wild Duck was thematized.

The Summer Academy’s thematic focus this year will be on Ibsen’s play Ghosts. This is one of the playwright’s most controversial works, due to its uncovering of unpleasant family secrets and societal hypocrisy.  To this day, the play is staged all over the world.
