Are you ready for an academic adventure unlike any other? Dive into a week of exploration, learning, and creativity at the Ibsen Summer Academy. Nestled in the picturesque city of Skien, birthplace of the globally celebrated playwright Henrik Ibsen, this is your chance to delve into the literary world of a master storyteller.

When: August 6th – August 9th,  2024.

Background
2028 marks the 200th anniversary of Henrik Ibsen’s birth. Due to the magnitude of Ibsens authorship, the event will be celebrated worldwide. The legacy of Ibsen is highly relevant to this day, his plays are performed on a large scale in all parts of the world. Ibsen Summer Academy welcomes students involvement in this Jubilee.

What to expect
Ibsen’s drama ”The lady from the sea” serves as our thematic compass throughout the week. You’ll engage with its central themes through diverse artistic workshops — textual, visual arts, and sound design—creating a tapestry of understanding that connects Ibsen's ideas to our lives and our global community.

As a participant, you’ll be inspired and challenged by enthusiastic workshop leaders. Beyond the workshops, experience Skien’s rich heritage with social activities including barbeques, bike rides, city walks, and a special visit to the Henrik Ibsen Museum. Just two hours from Oslo by train, Skien offers a blend of cultural history and scenic beauty.

About us
Ibsen Summer Academy is a creative collaboration between three partners: Skien municipality, Silver Ore Ibsen dissemination Centre, and The University of Southeastern Norway (www.usn.no).
